James May has a mishap with a hot air balloon and a caravan in Cambridgeshire
But now it’s Captain Slow’s turn to have a bit of a coming together, Appropriately, considering his apparent aversion for the flamboyant and reckless, he managed to do it in a hot air balloon. Which means it was another of Top Gear’s mad races, this time with May in a caravan attached to a hot air balloon over the Cambridgeshire countryside, and the Hamster in a Lambo. The hot air balloon was meant to land on the village green at Eltisley in Cambridgeshire.
ANOTHER year, another title – that’s the news from down under as Volkswagen has secured the World Rally Manufacturers’ Championship for the second year running after a clean sweep at the Rally Australia round. After a tense battle over the weekend, with Brit Kris Meeke leading for Citroen at one point, Volkswagen eventually took all three podium steps as Sebastien Ogier lead from teammate Jari-Matti Latvala with Andreas Mikkelsen coming in third. With only three rallies remaining this season, Volkswagen can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings.

At the beginning of October – when it was already starting to feel as if we were in mid-winter on some days – the nice man from Michelin (that’s Paul, not the Michelin Man) called and asked us if we’d like to go and play with their new tyre – the Michelin Pilot Super Sport - on some appealing cars. Sadly, too few staff and too much to do meant we had to decline his kind offer. Although it was very hard to do when we realised it would have meant a few days in the sun in Dubai and the chance to drive some of the world’s finest cars, shod with Michelin’s replacement for the Pilot Sport PS2.
